Emotionally focused

Couple Therapy (EFT)

Working with my team as a couple means first and foremost developing a strong alliance in support of the unique needs of your relationship.

Couple therapy is not individual therapy with two people. Couple therapy is a dynamic process that involves specialty training and education in the assessment and treatment of couples.

Common themes we support couples with include sex and intimacy, addiction recovery, infidelity, family of origin issues, and emotional disconnection. Regardless of the specific issue, the root is often unaddressed hurt and pain that needs to be addressed in a safe and supportive container by a skilled relationship therapist.

We also support couples who do not feel distressed but simply want to deepen their knowledge of their partner and want to learn how to connect in more emotionally intimate ways.

We welcome a diverse range of couples and relationship styles and are LGBTQIA allied and provide affirmative therapy for the LGBTQIA+ community and culturally attuned care for the BIPOC community.

My approach to couples therapy is emotionally-focused couples therapy (EFT). EFT is one of the most empirically supported models of couple therapy in the world with a wealth of outcome research to support its effectiveness.

At the core of EFT is attachment theory which is a scientific model that explains how humans form lasting bonds and repair insecure relationships. EFT is relatively short-term compared to other models in that couples typically are in treatment for 8-20 weekly sessions. There has been a significant amount of scientific research that supports EFT as a model that can help to alleviate even the most serious relationship problems (e.g., affair, trauma, loss).
