Family Therapy

Often, a person's problems or "symptoms" are interrelated with the relationships they have in their family. The goal of family therapy is to access the underlying issue(s) and family processes that are contributing to the problem.

I am passionate about family therapy, not only because it was at the heart of my clinical training, but because I find working with families exceptionally rewarding. My personal philosophy holds that our family relationships are often the most intimate and important relationships we experience in our lifetime but they can also be a source of pain and conflict. I work with clients to help them resolve family discord and grow a foundation for more satisfying relationships. Benefits of having several family members in treatment can be longer-lasting change and more swift results. Exploring one's own family of origin can also aid in personal and emotional growth and this is an area that I am particularly skilled in.

I have extensive experience helping families in crisis and in working with adolescents. My approach to family therapy integrates Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Bowen Family Systems, and Structural Family Therapy (SFT).

Potential issues covered in family therapy may include:

  • Adoption
  • Anxiety and/or depression
  • Blended families
  • Children/adolescent behavioral problems
  • Chronic illness or major medical condition
  • Divorce and Co-parenting
  • Death of a loved one
  • Parenting issues
  • Grief and loss
  • Substance abuse
